Our professional development programs give teachers hands-on experience of doing maths like a research mathematician and you will learn how to enable your students to have the same experience.

The MathCraft Workshops

Full Day Workshops

The full day workshop is an introduction to MathsCraft ideas. You will engage with some MathsCraft problems, and in doing so learn how to give your students an authentic experience of doing maths like a research mathematician.

Suitable for primary and secondary teachers.

AITSL standards addressed:

2.1 – Content and teaching strategies of the teaching area
4.1 – Support student participation
6.2 – Engage in professional learning and improve practice
6.3 – Engage with colleagues and improve practice

Five Day Immersive Workshop

This immersive workshop will give you advanced skills and knowledge to help give your students authentic experiences of doing maths like a research mathematician. The workshop will also cover how the approaches used can support learning in the everyday classroom.

Over the course of five days you will work with research mathematicians and fellow teachers, grappling  the sorts of problems that students experience in MathsCraft, and analyse the resulting experience both pedagogically and mathematically.

The workshop also includes a half-day MathsCraft session with students, so you can see the approaches in action.

Suitable for primary and secondary teachers.

AITSL standards addressed:

2.1 – Content and teaching strategies of the teaching area
6.2 – Engage in professional learning and improve practice
6.3 – Engage with colleagues and improve practice

Teacher Feedback from five-day PD Workshop in 2019

What did you learn about mathematical research?

" There are a lot of pathways. You don't know their potential unless you explore and practise exploring. Some lead to dead ends. Some lead to something interesting. Some lead to the unknown. That is an exciting place, and these people (research mathematicians) love to go down the rabbit hole. We got to be Alice this week as well. "
